Description

This FREE one day course is aimed at professionals with no prior knowledge of cochlear implants who want to know the basics in order to support a child in a classroom setting. This would be of particular interest to SENCOs and Learning Support Assistants.

Delegates who do not support an USAIS patient will pay £30 towards the cost of this training.

This course will cover the following:

  • What is a cochlear implant?
  • Troubleshooting equipment
  • What is it like to have a hearing loss?
  • Optimising the listening environment
  • How to support progress (divided into child age groups)

Delegates will need to choose one implant manufacturer and one age group to focus on for the day when applying on line.

Manufacturers and their processors are:

  1. Advanced Bionics (AB): Naida Q90 or Sky Marvel M90
  2. Cochlear: N7 or N8
  3. MED-EL: Sonnet 2 and 3

 Child age-range:

  1. Pre-school
  2. Primary
  3. Secondary

Tea and Coffee will be provided.

Device Troubleshooting Workshop - AIS

Description

This half day morning course is run for anyone working with patients with a cochlear implant who would like to feel more confident using and handling the speech processors.

You will have time working in small groups handling the processors and accessories. AIS Audiologists will guide you through the 3 different manufacturers' processors and how to troubleshoot so that you can feel more confident when you are out in the field. 

Delegates will be asked to choose 2 out of the 3 manufacturers to spend time learning about (Med-EL, Advanced Bionics and Cochlear).

It will take place in the morning and will be delivered FREE OF CHARGE if you are supporting an USAIS patient.

If you are not supporting an USAIS patient, the cost for the course will be £25.00.

Remote Microphone Systems, Auditory Implants and Speech Testing

Description

This two-day course is delivered with the Ewing Foundation and is aimed at Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Audiologists and Technicians.

The course will provide information about remote microphone systems, fitting them, checking and assessing their benefit in line with the latest national Quality Standards and Good Practice Guidance.

The course will cover the following:

Presentations:

  • Fitting options, policies and national guidance
  • Using remote microphone systems, including radio aids, with speech processors
  • Fitting, verification and validation of remote microphone systems (RMS)

Hands-on workshops and group sessions:

  • Verification of speech processors with various remote microphones including Cochlear MiniMic2+, Phonak and Comfort Audio ear level and neck loop systems
  • Validation with speech perception tests (Parrot Plus2 and Ewing SiN)

Reviewing personal experiences: discussion and feedback sessions
