Detailed Description

Nothing is Fixed has been published by John Hansard Gallery and features an essay from Katharine Stout, a conversation between Permindar Kaur and Dorothy Price, an Introduction by Nadia Thondrayen and a Foreword by Ros Carter. It opens up new conversations around Kaur's practice and her show of the same title. Themes of identity, home, belonging, care and safety run through the exhibition, with the work feeling especially relevant in the current socio-political landscape.

Kaur's work speaks to a wide section of society; people in transit or who migrate to make either temporary or permanent homes. Nothing is Fixed focuses on the intersectionality of identity; how society, family and education inform unique combinations of discrimination and privilege. Through these explorations, Kaur connects materials and sculpture to broader societal conversations.

Publication supported by Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai, and published to accompany Permindar Kaur's exhibition Nothing is Fixed at John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, 8 June  - 7 September 2024. Exhibition supported by Henry Moore Foundation and shortlisted for the Freelands Award 2022.
