Southampton Records SeriesDescriptionThe Southampton Records Series (from 1951) and its predecessor the Southampton Record Society (1905-1940) have published limited-edition volumes of historical records relating to Southampton and its environs for over a century. The Series aims to make records from the rich Southampton archives available widely throughout the world, and to print materials relating to the city which are located beyond Southampton in regional and national archives. The history of Southampton is diverse and does not lend itself to any one single narrative. The Series seeks to represent that history in all its diversity. The history of Southampton is therefore taken to be the histories of life and experience within the city boundaries, but also the ways in which external factors have shaped the development, identity, and lived experiences of this global city. Stand-alone volumes form an important part of the SRS output and will continue to do so. At the same time, we are keen to publish volumes that draw together elements of Southampton’s history across time and so proposals that link with extant volumes, or that may offer scope to develop work across a theme and over time, are particularly welcome.
