Shared Decision Making Online Masterclass

Shared Decision Making is a core component of personalised care.  This one-day, online course, will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to put shared decision making skills into practice.  We welcome attendance from any health or social care professional who wants to learn more about shared decision making – what it is, why it’s important, and how to do it well.

Course Description

Here at WASP, we love supporting health and social care professionals to embed personalised care within their everyday practice.  Shared Decision Making (SDM) ensures that individuals are supported to make decisions about their health and care, that are right for them.  It is one way in which care for people with long term conditions can be personalised.  

Shared decision making is a joint process, through which healthcare professionals and people with long term conditions work together to make decisions, based on the individual’s needs, and what matters most to them.  But this is easier said than done!  To do well, SDM requires healthcare professionals to have a range of knowledge and skills – including the ability to balance professional judgement with the needs and wishes of those receiving care. 

This one-day Masterclass will introduce participants with the core knowledge and skills required for SDM.  The course is delivered online and involves group work and interactive sessions.   We hope to see you there!

Learning Objectives.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to: 

1. Define Shared Decision-Making 
2. Summarise how SDM fits with personalised care (universal model and operating model)
3. Describe the benefits of SDM and the evidence base that supports it
4. Demonstrate their understanding of the supportive systems required to deliver Shared Decision-Making 
5. Describe the SHARE approach, and how it can support SDM conversations
6. Create a reflection of their own practice, including how they will change something to reflect their own learning from the day
