Dr Margaret Donovan-Hall is co-presenting an in-person outcome measurement in rehabilitation CPD course at the University of Southampton.

This course is for any healthcare professional working in rehabilitation including GPs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, nurses, and speech language therapists.

Course Description

This course examines the overarching issues related to outcome measurement in rehabilitation and explores how you can make these meaningful for patients.  

This course is for any healthcare professional working in rehabilitation including GPs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, nurses, and speech language therapists.

Participants will have the opportunity to debate the key issues related to outcome measurements, define the difference between 'outcome domains' and 'outcome measures' and will enable participants to apply their learning to their own practice.

Dr Margaret Donovan-Hall, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton

Dr Margaret Donovan-Hall has a background in health psychology. Her research aims to understand a wider range of psychosocial issues in relation to rehabilitation and disability, taking a user-led and person-centred approach. She has a specific interest in healthcare technologies, focusing on co-design and co-development approaches that enhance value, access, and improving people's quality of life. Understanding and improving the use of outcome measurement is a crucial part of this work.  

Chantel Ostler, Clinical Academic Physiotherapist in Prosthetic Rehabilitation at Solent NHS Trust

Chantel Ostler is currently undertaking a PhD exploring patient centred approaches to outcome measurement. She has published several related papers including a review of outcome measurement in clinical practice and qualitative work exploring what patients think are outcome domains of importance. She has worked clinically in prosthetic rehabilitation for over 20 years and now combines this role with teaching and research at the University of Southampton.  

Dr Dawn-Marie Walker, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton

Dr Dawn-Marie Walker is a psychologist by background, and her research focusses on place-based inequalities in mental health. She is a mixed methodologist with expertise in co-production and has vast experience of teaching statistics and research methods.

  • Explore the use of outcome measurements from all perspectives, specifically making outcome measurement meaningful for patients
  • Understand what quality factors relate to outcome measures
  • A clear understanding of what makes a good outcome measure
  • Review the use of outcome measurement in your own practice to help you plan for the future.
