RYA Youth Sailing Scheme - Beginners
For children aged 8-14 years old.
Sport and Wellbeing will be running 2 week courses covering the RYA Youth sailing scheme in the summer. There are four stages to the Youth start sailing courses - the Beginners course is suitable for children with no sailing experience, and those working towards stage 1 or stage 2:

Meet at the University Watersports Centre between 08:00-08:45.
The sailing course will be held on the River Itchen from the University Watersports Centre, Oliver Road.
Children should be at the Watersports Centre, Oliver Road between 8:00-8:45am for registration. A responsible adult will be required to sign the register on behalf of the child.
Parents/Guardians should collect their children between 5:00- 5.45pm at the end of the day. A responsible adult will be required to sign the register on behalf of the child.
If parents are running late please could they contact the Jubilee sports centre and inform staff.
What we DO provide: Wetsuits, spray tops, buoyancy aids, large waterproof bags, helmets (where appropriate).
What we DON’T provide: Shoes that can get wet, gloves, hats, towels, change of clothes, thermals, jumpers, sun cream, bottled water, food, toiletries (shower gel etc), sunglasses (preferably with a cord), swimming costume
Weather: Practical sessions will always take place, other than in gales or flat calm. If the weather conditions stop the children going out on the water, they will join in with the main Jubilee Sports Centre kids camp activities.
Safety: Buoyancy aids are provided and must always be worn when afloat. Any course member with a medical condition, e.g. Diabetes, should relay this information to the Instructor before the beginning of the course – this will be treated in the strictest confidence. Please make sure you complete a medical questionnaire before going on the water.
Although it is not essential, it is advisable that you are able to swim 50m. If your child is not able to swim please ensure you advise the sports camps coordinators when you drop off your child.
All instructors are first aid trained; please approach them if you require help.
Meals: Candidates are asked to bring a packed lunch and something warm to drink. Sailing is an intensive sport and it is advisable that you provide your child with sufficient carbohydrates and something sweet. We advise packing the lunch in a waterproof container. Please provide plenty of drinks.
