Description

The Southampton Summer Academy is a hub for postgraduate training and research in Computational Modelling, combining research-focused presentations and discussions with a portfolio of training workshops open to all postgraduate students in the UK.

The NGCM Summer Academy offers training that covers crucial steps in the computational workflow based around the programming language Python complemented by specialised courses for accelerator technology. Python is modern, easy to learn and growing quickly in computational science and industry use.

The three courses take place on day 1 of the Summer Academy. One is aimed at complete beginners at using Python and programming (‘basic Python’), another course will teach Python at an intermediate level and is suitable for those with prior programming experience or basic Python knowledge (‘intermediate Python’). The third course (‘scientific programming’) is suitable for those with familiarity with the material in the other two courses and covers software sustainability topics for developing and publishing scientific codes.

The first two groups will spend the afternoon together learning about version control.
